My step-grandmother is planning on selling her Miata. 1997, red, excellent condition, only 31,000 kilometres on the clock. Base as base can be. Any idea on what a fair price would be for it? $10,000 doesn’t seem too far out of line, according to local Autotrader stuff, but everyone here probably has a better idea than I do.

You’re ignoring the much larger issue here; Miata ownership and oppo account ownership have a pretty high correlation. It’s likely that your step-grandmother lives a double life as an anonymous opponaut. She’s probably even talked to you on here without you even knowing it was her. She could be any one of us and there would be no way for you to know...

10k$ is on the higher end of reasonable but still being acceptable if it’s in top-notch condition. Base model hurts it a bit since people typically want the LSD at the very least. Also, what condition is the top in (does it have a hardtop)? Is the plastic window faded-yellow? If it needs replacing, subtract 500$ from your final asking price or spend 300$ and install a new top with a proper glass window.

Free car is free car, but that’s not how this family works. I’d probably have to offer at least half the value of it in order to get it, and it’s not exactly a great choice for someone with no garage and who lives in a cold, snowy place.

10k CAD right? if so, then, yeah but I wouldn’t hold my breath to hard for it. Maybe 9000/8500 might be closer even in amazing condition, but I suppose 9k wouldn’t be too crazy if it’s show room mint. But base as base can be? that will be tough, any one looking to spend that cash on that kind of ride ain’t looking for super base.

Ask grams for the Miata.
Move to Texas.
Year-round Miata weather around here, and the living’s dirt cheap. Problem solved. Plus, your Canadian politeness will fit right in with Southern Hospitality. Just change your “ay” to “eh” and you’ll be golden!

One of them is filled with bees. You can see the hive in the picture. The other looks like it was drowned in a bog. The third one is probably stolen, which is why it says “cash only priced for quick sale no narcs” in the description.
